About Our Support
Alongside our 1‑1 counselling—available in person and online—we run two dedicated bereavement support groups facilitated by Neurokind Counselling Therapies. These groups offer a safe, compassionate space for anyone grieving the loss of a loved one. Led by qualified counsellors, they provide room to talk openly about experiences, emotions, and the challenges of grief.
We offer one daytime and one evening group. Each session may look a little different: some focus on open conversation, while others include gentle activities or invited speakers to support healing and reflection. At their heart, the groups aim to offer comfort, connection, and community for those finding their way through loss
Losing someone you love is never easy, but being surrounded by people who genuinely understand can make the journey feel a little less heavy. Our bereavement groups are facilitated by highly skilled, experienced practitioners who specialise in supporting people through grief with care, professionalism, and compassion.
Our bereavement groups offer a safe, supportive space to remember loved ones who shared a passion for Sunderland AFC. We understand the unique bond of this club, and we provide a place to share memories and emotions in whatever way feels right.By talking about those we’ve lost, we keep their spirit alive and strengthen our red‑and‑white community — offering comfort, connection, and healing through the club they loved.
Our members chose the name SAFC Forever In Our Hearts, believing it best reflects the passion and dedication Sunderland fans carry for the club — in life and beyond. The group logo was also voted for by our community, with over 1,000 Facebook votes choosing the old ship design. It was a clear favourite, celebrating our city’s shipbuilding heritage and the iconic bridges over the Wear. That design now proudly features on our third branch pin badge.
Additional Services
Everyone’s grief is different, which is why our support is too. Thanks to fundraising, every level of support we offer is delivered by experienced, qualified counsellors, so you can access the care that best meets your needs. If group support isn’t right for you, our listening ear service offers one-to-one time with a qualified, experienced listener. If you feel that you need deeper support, we also offer one-to-one bereavement counselling.
Our groups are a safe, respectful space for everyone. We ask all participants to treat one another with kindness, listen without judgement, and be mindful of each other’s emotions. By keeping the environment supportive, everyone can feel comfortable sharing their experiences and finding strength in one another.
