How we’ve grown and why we decided to become a Community Interest Company (CIC).

We are pleased to confirm that Heaven Branch has now been granted CIC status.
Our CIC Status
Our mission has always been clear: to honour those we’ve lost and to support the bereaved among us with dignity, compassion, and unity.
Over time, what began as a small gesture of solidarity has grown into something deeply meaningful. As we’ve grown, so too has the responsibility we carry – and the impact we’re proud to be making. That’s why we believe it’s time to take the next progressive step in our journey.
After much thought and discussion, we’ve decided that the Sunderland Supporters Heaven Branch will become a Community Interest Company (CIC). A CIC is a special type of limited company that exists to benefit the community rather than private shareholders. In short, this means every penny we raise, every donation we receive, and every effort we make will continue to go straight back into the branch – and into the work we do supporting bereaved Sunderland supporters and their families.
This move gives us the structure and recognition we need to: Be more self-sufficient and transparent, Apply for grants and opportunities only available to community-focused organisations, and most importantly, ensure our values – of remembrance, community, and care – are protected for the long term.
We want to thank everyone who has donated, shared kind words, attended events, or simply kept us in their thoughts.
Your support has made this possible – and it will continue to drive us forward. Becoming a CIC doesn’t change who we are – it strengthens what we stand for.
We remain, as always, committed to honouring those no longer with us, supporting those left behind, and showing that being part of this football family means no one is ever alone.
