Every blade of grass tells a story of love, loss, and lifelong loyalty. After a heartfelt conversation about the cherished SAFC items laid to rest with fans, we reached out to Head Groundsman Glen Campbell—whose kindness brought an extraordinary idea to life. Glen agreed to gift us cuttings from the hallowed pitch, and so began a tradition filled with meaning.

Nearly 200 Sunderland supporters have now taken those sacred clippings with them on their final journey, lovingly dried, and placed in bottles for burial or soft pouches for cremation. For those left behind, we craft unique keepsakes using those same clippings: tiny teddy bears, keyrings, and “little hugs” tailored to each family member or friend, bringing tangible comfort in times of grief.

Thanks to generous fundraising, these gifts—alongside Seeds of Love and a remembrance certificate—are offered freely to bereaved families. Because here, we believe memory lives in every touch, every blade, and every heart that beats for Sunderland.

The first batch was cut before the semi-final playoff game against Luton, on 13 May 2023 and we have had regular batches kindly given to us since which have been sent to fans around the country and as far as Spain, Ireland and Australia.
